PHILADELPHIA – A body has been recovered from the debris of Sunday’s freeway collapse on a major highway in Philadelphia, authorities said Monday.

A spokesman for the Pennsylvania State Police said debris was discovered from the wreckage of the Interstate 95 collapse around 2pm EDT. WCAU-TV reported The spokesman said the remains had not been “positively identified”.

Officials said the body has been turned over to the medical examiner and county coroner. WNEP-TV reported

“A body was recovered from the (I-95) wreckage and turned over to the Philadelphia County Medical Examiner and authorities are in the process of identifying the remains,” State Police spokesman Myles Snyder said. CNN.

Pennsylvania State Transportation Secretary Mike Carroll said The Philadelphia Inquirer that “I will defer to the medical examiner for comment.”

The indefinite closure of I-95 began Sunday after a tanker truck caught fire under the interstate, causing a partial collapse of the overhead lanes.

Carroll said the driver of the tractor-trailer was attempting to navigate a curve and lost control of the vehicle, which landed on its side, ruptured the tank and ignited the fire, the Researcher reported

In accordance with WTXF-TV, Moody, 53, is a husband, father and experienced driver. Family members told the television station that the driver, who has 10 years of experience as a truck driver, was hauling fuel for a company in Pennsauken, New Jersey, at the time of the crash.
