Coach Young told Extra Inning Softball this afternoon via text message:
“The doctors had no plans to change his condition today,” Marissa began, “but the good Lord and James’ strong will had other plans.”
“Suddenly, James was stable enough to get him off the sedation and off the ventilator. Finally being able to communicate with him is a huge step in his recovery and a huge morale boost for our family.”
After being sedated, Coach James had a question for his wife and those supporting him at Duke University Hospital:
“Where are my girls?”
His 18U team is at the Top Gun Invitational and, like a scene from a Hollywood movie, Coach James’ daughter, laylahit a home run shortly after she and her team received a phone call and were able to speak with her father.
“Those who know James best”, adds trainer Marissa, “will not be surprised by his first inquiries. He asked about his kids and their softball teams!”
