WILLIAMSBURG, Brooklyn (WABC) — The man accused of fatally stabbing a Brooklyn subway passenger was released without bail Thursday afternoon.
Jordan Williams, 20, was charged Wednesday with involuntary manslaughter and criminal possession of a weapon in the death of Devictor Ouedraogo, 36, on a J train Tuesday night.
The Brooklyn district attorney’s office had asked for a $100,000 bond, but the judge told Williams, “I have every reason to believe you’re going to fight this case.”
Police are reviewing video of Ouedraogo, believed to be homeless, harassing subway commuters.
That’s apparently what led to some kind of fight with Williams before the fatal stabbing.
A lawyer for Williams says it’s a clear case of self-defense.
Police say Williams did not stay at the scene, but was arrested several subway stops away with her friend at the Chauncey St. station, still on the same train. Police say the folding knife used in the killing was recovered in the man’s possession.
A witness told Eyewitness News that Williams went too far.
“It’s definitely something that he didn’t start or probably would have been involved in if it wasn’t for, you know, the guy who was killed was the aggressor,” the witness said. “But you can’t kill someone just because, you know, they started a fight with you.”
