Maritime transport is the backbone of international trade and the global economy.

To accommodate the growing volume of traffic, ports and waterways must be expanded and maintained.

The Yangtze Canal is the access channel to several container terminals in the Port of Rotterdam, including Prinses Amaliahaven, Prinses Arianehaven and Prinses Alexiahaven.

In addition, Van Oord said the Yangtze Canal hosts the largest container ships traveling there from terminals in the port’s Maasvlakte II section.

The construction of a tugboat dock is part of a program to expand the Yangtze Canal to accommodate more traffic and state-of-the-art container ships.
