JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office is investigating after a man was found dead in a smoking house on Spring Street.

Jacksonville Fire and Rescue responded around 2 a.m. and found smoke coming from the home, according to detectives. Firefighters discovered a hot plate in the kitchen was causing the smoke and put it in the sink.
After the fire was extinguished, JFRD conducted a security sweep and found a dead man in one of the rooms. JSO was contacted and is still on scene with the State Attorney’s Office.

A woman who lives at the home is being interviewed by police as a witness. Police said the motive and cause of death is not yet known.
