COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KKTV) – As thousands celebrated the Denver Nuggets’ championship victory in Denver Tuesday morning, police responded to reports of a shooting in the 2000 block of Market Street downtown.
Denver police reported a total of nine gunshot victims and said a suspect also suffered a gunshot wound shortly after 12:30 a.m. Tuesday.
Police said three victims were in critical condition and the other victims and the suspect were believed to have non-life threatening injuries. The investigation is ongoing.
During a news conference Tuesday, police said they believe there may be a drug connection, as several bags of fentanyl were found at the scene, on one of the suspects and in another suspect’s vehicle . Two people face charges in connection with the shooting, and police say several innocent bystanders were shot.
Police described the investigation as “complex.”
