Two dead in North Olmsted giant eagle shooting

CLEVELAND, Ohio (WOIO) – Police in North Olmsted confirmed two people are dead after a shooting at Giant Eagle.

Chief Bob Wagner confirmed the shooting took place inside the Giant Eagle, located at 27264 Lorain Rd, at 9:35 am.

Police confirmed that a Giant Eagle employee, Susan Peterson, 63, of Olmsted Township, was found shot to death next to Bernard Smith, 60, of Cleveland.

Police also said the two were married at one point and had been separated.

Wagner said police are investigating this as a murder-suicide.

Giant Eagle provided the following statement to 19 News regarding the shooting:

“We are shocked and deeply saddened that such a senseless act of violence occurred in one of our stores. Our top priority remains the safety of our team members and our guests. We appreciate the quick response of local authorities and we are committed to providing all available resources to law enforcement to assist them in their ongoing investigation. Our thoughts and hearts are with all those affected by this terrible tragedy.”
