BOSTON — A fire at an MBTA station near Tufts Medical Center forced the T to temporarily suspend Orange Line service between North Station and Back Bay, the transit agency said midday Wednesday.
Crews called to the scene spent the afternoon investigating a problem with the third lane, the T said in a tweet at 12:30 p.m.
“Orange Line Update: Service is temporarily suspended between North Station and Back Bay while we investigate an issue with the third lane at Tufts Medical Center. Riders can use the Green Line for alternate service between North Station and Copley,” said the tweet.

More than a dozen Boston firefighters were seen responding to the fire inside the station.
In an update posted shortly after 2 p.m., the T said, “The Department of Energy has completed repairs and regular service has resumed between North Station and Back Bay.”

Officials continued to warn of residual Orange Line delays of up to 15 minutes due to the suspension of earlier service.
The cause of the fire was not immediately known.
