Roy Hodgson has been confirmed as Crystal Palace’s new manager for the upcoming Premier League season after the club announced he would remain in charge.
The 75-year-old guided Palace to safety in the English top flight after being brought in to replace Patrick Vieira midway through last season and will remain in his role as head coach for the new campaign.
Confirming the news on social media, Palace tweeted: “We are delighted to announce that Roy Hodgson has been appointed Crystal Palace manager for the 23/24 season
“He will lead the team next season alongside Paddy McCarthy as assistant manager, Ray Lewington as manager and Dean Kiely as goalkeeping coach.”

Hodgson’s return to Selhurst Park was originally mooted as a temporary solution to the club’s relegation struggles which saw them dragged into a relegation zone.
The former England manager quickly eradicated relegation fears, winning his first three games against fellow strugglers Leicester, Leeds and Southampton. All three would end up relegated to the Championship.
Palace, meanwhile, went on and took more top-flight scalps at Wolverhampton and West Ham as Hodgson brought a new brand of attacking football with him.
His continuation means he will retain his status as the Premier League’s longest-serving manager and marks a complete turnaround after he previously left the club two years ago to spend more time with his family.
Supporters already bemoaned the Englishman’s tactics during his first spell at the club, but now seem to fully agree that the right decision was made to extend his stay.
One commentator reacting to the news said: “Hopefully he can continue the exciting football we ended the season with. I don’t care if Roy is a legend!

Another added: “Roy is the most experienced manager out there. Who better to learn from. He has a better team than when he left a couple of years ago. Hopefully together we can get the team firing with all cylinders.
However, some were skeptical of the decision and vented their frustration at club chairman Steve Parish, while another complained: “I think he’s going to keep us but I can’t deny I’m underwhelmed… it appears that instability at board level means we are struggling to attract other managers”.
Hodgson averaged 1.8 points per game in 10 games in charge of Palace last season and will be hoping his rich vein of form continues into the new league campaign.
Palace open their season against Sheffield United on August 12 before facing Arsenal in their home opener a week later.
