Jamestown homicide suspect Michael Burham escapes from prison in Pennsylvania

(WJET/WFXP/YourErie.com) – Michael Burham has escaped from the Warren County Jail. He was last seen on July 6 at approximately 11:20 p.m. wearing an orange and white jumpsuit with studs and a denim jacket. Burham is considered very dangerous.

Police are asking citizens to lock their doors, stay alert and call 911 if anything is out of the ordinary.

“All law enforcement resources are cooperating in this incident, as well as New York State and PA resources are cooperating. The inmate was wearing the latest orange and white alligator shirt and a denim jacket. It’s considered very dangerous,” said Warren County Public Information Officer Cecile Stelter.

According to a Warren County official, Barham was able to escape the recreation room by climbing onto exercise equipment and escaping through a metal door. Then he tied the sheets, which he used to get down to the floor.

Authorities believe he is on foot and have searched the Warren area. However, they say the suspect is a survivor and may spend several days in the woods.

Michael Burham is currently facing 26 charges, including eight felonies in Warren County, after allegedly raping and killing a woman in Jamestown, New York, setting a car on fire and kidnapping an elderly couple at gunpoint, leading authorities in a multi-state manhunt.

Burham was captured in South Carolina on May 24.

He was held in the Warren County Jail on $1 million bail, and his preliminary hearing was set for July 11 at the Warren County Courthouse.
