About 30 members of the University of Wisconsin Marching Band will be in New Holstein on Sunday, July 9, to march in the firemen’s parade and then perform a “fifth quarter” performance at Civic Park.
The band’s appearance was just confirmed on Friday. The UW Marching Band will lead the tail end of the parade that flows into Civic Park. After a short break, the band will perform their popular “Fifth Quarter” under the park’s large shade trees as hundreds of fans gather around.
Lisa Jacobson of the New Holstein Area Chamber of Commerce, who is helping the firefighters with the parade this year, was instrumental in getting the band to come. The band requires a sponsorship fee that the Fire Department covers, so organizers said they hope their appearance will draw more people to the park Sunday to buy food and drinks that help sponsor the band’s appearance.
The UW Marching Band joins the Kiel Municipal Band and the New Holstein High School Marching Band as the main musical units in the parade. Overall, the parade has slightly more units this year than last year, and organizers said they are pleased to see the event grow.
The parade begins at 11 a.m. in the area of the old Tecumseh Products Company and continues down Railroad Street to Wisconsin Avenue, then up the hill to Church Street to the park.
This all comes after a great Saturday night at the picnic which will include The Glam Band and a huge fireworks display.
