Update: Monday 8:50 p.m
A girl has died in a drowning accident at the Aransas Pass Aquatic Center.
Police tell us the call came in around 2:30 p.m. Monday.
Aransas Pass Police Chief Eric Blanchard said the girl was under 10 years old and not from Aransas Pass. Blanchard said the girl fell into the water and was found to be unresponsive or in distress.
Police don’t know if the girl couldn’t swim, but they pulled her out of the pool.
He said at least two lifeguards pulled the girl from the water, with her family by her side. Rescuers then began CPR. Emergency responders were en route to a car accident when this call came in.
“The good thing is that we already had an ambulance coming that way, both ambulances were coming to the accident. One of them broke right away and came right here,” Blanchard said.
Blanchard said other life-saving measures were taken when emergency responders arrived. The decision was made not to use Halo Flight and just go to a hospital.
“I have a detective assigned to do an investigation. Now, we don’t think there’s any criminal wrongdoing, but since it’s at the city pool, we’re doing a thorough investigation of the situation, to try to gather all the facts early “, he said.
The pool was closed the day after the incident.
Blanchard said no other information would be released at this time.
