A man and a Phoenix police officer were attacked by a dog Saturday morning, prompting the officer and the men to be taken to the hospital. The dog was shot and killed by an officer, according to the Phoenix Police Department.
Around 7:45 a.m., officers responded to a home in the area of 7th Avenue and Atlanta Avenue regarding a loose animal call. Police said the call indicated a dog had attacked a man inside the home and the dog was not yet under control, according to a news release.
When an officer arrived, the dog attacked the officer, police said. The officer then shot and killed the dog. The dog’s breed has not been confirmed by police. Both the man and the officer were taken to hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries. Police said both the man and the officer have been released from the hospital, according to the news release.
The investigation into the incident is ongoing, according to police.
