WINCHESTER, Mass. – State police on Sunday identified the 17-year-old swimmer whose body was recovered from Shannon Beach in Winchester on Saturday.

Luis Tejeda of Lynn died Saturday after going swimming with several family members, state police said.

Luis “and another family member were well beyond the swim barriers when the other swimmer with him realized he was no longer visible at the surface,” state police said in a statement.

The teenager was swimming about 100 yards from shore when other swimmers noticed he had fallen below the surface, state police said.

Family members tried to search for him as 911 was called around 7 p.m. to report a missing swimmer, state police said.

Emergency crews later recovered the teenager’s body in about six feet of water near the area where he was last seen.

The beach does not have lifeguards after 6 pm

Foul play is not suspected, state police said.
