A 40-year-old woman who was one of three people involved in a single-vehicle crash in the Holden area has died from her injuries, the second fatality from Tuesday night’s crash, according to authorities
Angela Ziegler, of Holden, died after she and two other people were ejected from the car that crashed into a tree on Highway 441 in LA, Louisiana State Police said in a statement Thursday.
Ziegler is the second person to die as a result of the accident. The other victim was James Ard, 22, also from Holden.
Ard, Ziegler and another occupant were in a 2013 Volkswagen Beetle heading north on the 441 in Los Angeles around 8 p.m. Tuesday when the driver failed to negotiate a left-hand curve, left the roadway and struck a tree, according to LSP spokesman Christian Reed.
The impact caused all occupants to be ejected from the vehicle, Reed said.
Ard was not restrained at the time of the crash and died of his injuries at the scene. The other two unrestrained occupants, including Ziegler, were transported to local hospitals after suffering serious injuries in the crash.
State police said in their latest statement that they were notified of Ziegler’s death early Thursday.
Authorities have said they do not know which occupant was the driver.
The other occupant has not been identified.
“While not all crashes are survivable, statistics show that restraints that are used properly can significantly reduce the risk of injury or death in a crash,” Reed said. “Louisiana law requires that every person in a vehicle, regardless of seating position, always wear a seat belt. Wearing a seat belt properly is one of the most effective ways to save a life and reduce injuries in accidents”.
