If Pelosi opts for another bid for the office she’s held since 1987, that means her California constituents will see a new face in washington dcnext year, and a political upheaval for Democrats in Congress.

The speaker emeritus has yet to reveal her election intentions for 2024, which could prompt a run by other Golden State Democrats hoping to represent San Francisco, one of the most liberal cities in the U.S. As it stands, Pelosi does not face a formal primary challenge from a member of her own party.
If Pelosi, 83, decides not to seek re-election until the last minute, or before the Dec. 8 filing deadline, would-be candidates will have an additional five days to file. For context, the official Democratic nomination process opens in mid-August.
Pelosi’s team has already raised $3.5 million in the first six months of this year for her potential re-election efforts, despite her continued silence about her future in capitol hill.

While this could be an indicator that she won’t back down, it could also be a power play by Pelosi to show her continued popularity among political donors.
And according to some political analysts, Pelosi’s favorability could allow her to help boost the campaigns of others in her party if she decides to run, then resign to trigger a special election to fill her seat.
