Donald Trump has attacked the grand jury investigation into the Jan. 6 Capitol riot and his efforts to overturn the 2020 presidential election, saying he could be indicted on criminal charges as soon as this week.
At a Social Truth rally Sunday night, the former president attacked Special Counsel Jack Smith and Attorney General Merrick Garland, claiming the investigations are a “coordinated deception” and a ploy to “STEAL ANOTHER ELECTION through FISCAL MISCONDUCT at levels never seen in America.”
It comes as former Vice President Mike Pence downplayed Mr Trump’s actions leading up to the Capitol riots, saying he was unsure whether they were criminal or not.
“While his words were reckless, as far as I know, I’m still not convinced they were criminal,” Pence, who is also a Republican presidential candidate, told CNN’s “State of the Union.”
In one of the clearest signs Trump could face federal charges over his efforts to overturn the 2020 election, the former president said last week he had received a letter saying he is the target of a grand jury investigation.

The GOP’s Hunter Biden game endangers national security, House oversight Democrats say
Democrats on the House Oversight Committee issued a memo saying that the release by Speaker James Comer (R-KY) and Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-IA) of an unclassified document related to their investigation into Hunter Biden endangers national security.
Grassley released what’s called an FD-1023 form, which includes claims a confidential informant made about President Joe Biden’s son Hunter’s work with Ukrainian energy company Burisma.
The whistleblower claimed Burisma officials told them about his relationships with then-Vice President Biden and his son Hunter. But top Republicans admit they can’t verify the claims on the form.
But a memo from Democratic members of the committee characterized the claims, which were recalled “secondhand” by Ukrainian oligarch Mykola Zlochevsky, owner of Burisma, to the FBI by a confidential source, as “years after the fact.”

How Trump is gaining an edge in the battle for delegates
Put aside the polls, fundraising numbers or name recognition of Donald Trump as metrics of his early dominance of the Republican presidential contest. He has what could be the biggest advantage in the race: a lead to win the delegates needed to clinch the GOP nomination.
While the delegate count won’t begin to take shape until voting begins next January, Trump’s lead in the race to win their votes is well underway.

Pennsylvania mayor seeks reimbursement for Trump’s expenses as he prepares another rally
Erie-Times News reports that the city of Erie is again seeking reimbursement from the Trump campaign for taxpayer expenses incurred as a result of the former president’s rally scheduled for Saturday.
The president paid no more than $35,000 to the city to cover the costs of a rally in 2018.
Erie Mayor Joe Schember’s administration will once again seek reimbursement from former President Donald J. Trump’s campaign for any taxpayer-funded employee-related costs incurred as a result of Trump’s planned Saturday rally at the Erie Insurance Arena.
Schember told the Erie Times-News Monday morning that the city plans to seek reimbursement from the Trump campaign, despite the fact that the former president’s campaign committee failed to pay the city more than $35,000 in connection with a Trump rally that took place at the Erie Insurance Arena nearly five years ago.
