Pope Francis said on Saturday that he had to slow down, telling reporters after a six-day trip to Canada that he could no longer maintain his hectic international travel schedule, although he acknowledged that he might also retire. “I don’t think I can go at the same pace as I used to travel,” the 85-year-old pope, who suffers from knee pain and was confined to a wheelchair during his visit to Canada, told reporters.
“I think that at my age and with this limitation (of my knees), I have to save myself a little to be able to serve the Church. Or, alternatively, think about the possibility of taking a step to the side”, he added.
