On Thursday, July 28, candidates for three Madison County District School Board seats were able to make their case at the Madison County Courthouse during the first-ever “Know Before You Vote” political forum, produced by Greene Publishing , Inc.
The evening began with a rousing rendition of the national anthem and an inspirational invocation by Jamarien “JP” Moore, followed by an introduction of the candidates by the evening’s moderator, Madison County Clerk of Court Billy Washington. Each candidate had three minutes to introduce themselves before answering four pre-prepared questions. After that, candidates answered questions chosen from questions submitted by readers of Greene Publishing, Inc. Candidates were also given three minutes each for closing remarks.
Candidates participating were: District 1 candidate Merv Mattair, District 1 candidate Katie Knight, District Three incumbent Surretta Bell, District Three candidate VeEtta Hagan, District Five candidate Devin Thompson, of District Five George Monreal, District Five Candidate Charles Medders and District Five Candidate Donnell Davis. District 1 incumbent Susie Williamson was unable to attend due to illness. However, he gave his answers to the prepared questions, which were read by Washington.
The forum was also streamed live on the Greene Publishing, Inc. Facebook page.
A very special “thank you” goes to the forum sponsors. Without your help and assistance, the forum would not have been possible. Sponsors were: Madison County Supervisor of Elections, Heath Driggers, Madison Florist, Mom and Pops Odds ‘n Ends, MRG Career Apparel and Continental Public Adjusters.
