Brian Kelly’s recruiting staff has given LSU fans plenty to smile about over the past two months. On Saturday, the Tiger faithful got an adrenaline rush when the nation’s No. 10 safety for 2023 announced his commitment as Kylin Jackson selected the Tigers in-state over Texas A&M.
At 6-foot-1, 195 pounds, the Zachary product had coast-to-coast offers from the likes of Michigan, Oregon, Tennessee, South Carolina and more than 20 others. However, area recruiter Joe Sloan, safeties coach Kerry Cooks, recruiting specialist Jordan Arcement and others convinced the four-star prospect that staying home was in his best interest.
The 247Sports Composite ranks Jackson as the No. 10 safety and No. 167 player in the nation. It’s also No. 10 in the Bayou State.
Jackson covers a lot of ground in tape in both passing and running situations. He plays the safety position like a true midfielder and is also comfortable covering the 1v1 slot. The best asset of his game in run support is closing the ball and closing gaps in real estate, which he does well and quickly
Like many others, 247Sports director of scouting Gabe Brooks sees a lot of potential in Jackson’s game at the next level.
Good height and looks long on tape. Lean, athletic build that will encourage bulk in college. Instinctive center back type who covers chunks of territory in the passing game. Awareness is obvious, as is functional athleticism. He has a nose for the ball. He redirects pretty well relative to frame length, allowing him to drive on throws. The frame should help break the capture point. Above average ball skills. Willing tackler who will crash the box against the run when needed… Projects at a high and senior level with tons of long term upside.
Jackson gives the Tigers 20 commitments in Kelly’s first full class in Baton Rouge, which ranks sixth in the 247Sports Composite team rankings.
Seven of those 20 additions reside in Louisiana, and six came on board since July 4, giving LSU a small run in The Boot.
