The Florida Highway Patrol responded to a crash in Apopka this morning that left a motorcyclist with fatal injuries.
According to the FHP report, at approximately 5:21 a.m., a garbage truck driven by a 51-year-old Apopka man was traveling southbound on Sheeler Avenue approaching State Route 436 on left turn lane. At the same time, a 1986 Yamaha XV1100 motorcycle, driven by a 57-year-old Orlando man, was also traveling northbound on SR-436.
The motorist was proceeding north through the intersection when the garbage truck attempted to turn left to travel east on 436. As a result, the front of the garbage truck struck the front of the motorcycle.
The motorcyclist was taken to AdventHealth Apopka, where he was pronounced dead. The garbage truck driver remained at the scene and did not report any injuries.
The accident remains under investigation to determine which vehicle ran the green light.
The FHP did not release the name of the dead driver or motorcyclist.
