buzzfeed (BZFD)- Get a free report CEO Jonah Peretti has sent a letter to staff announcing that the company has decided to shut down Buzzfeed News. The letter was shared on Twitter on the morning of April 20 by New York Times reporter Ben Mullin.
In the letter, Peretti tells employees that closing BuzzFeed News is part of a general layoff affecting 15 percent of its employees across its business, content, technology and administration teams.
Peretti also says that CRO Edgar Hernandez and COO Christian Baesler “have made the decision to leave the company” and that Marcela Martin, president of BuzzFeed, will assume responsibility for all revenue functions “immediately.”
BuzzFeed News has been active since 2006 and was a finalist for the 2021 Pulitzer Prize for International Reporting.
