ANDOVER, Mass. — An 18-year-old man suffered life-threatening injuries when he crashed into the back of a tractor-trailer on Interstate 93 in Andover Sunday night, authorities said.
Officers responding to a report of a crash on the northbound side of the highway shortly before 10 p.m. Sunday found a Methuen driver in need of emergency medical treatment, according to Massachusetts State Police.
The victim, whose name has not been released, was taken to a Boston hospital.
The freeway was closed for hours to allow the helicopter to land and investigate.
The crash scene was cleared shortly before 1am
A preliminary investigation suggested the victim was driving at a high rate of speed before crashing into the back of the tractor, according to state police.
The accident remains under investigation.
