Even as Prime Minister Narendra Modi unveiled the new Parliament building, NCP supremo Sharad Pawar on Sunday said he was happy not to attend the inaugural function.
NCP is among the 22 political parties that had boycotted the inaugural function.

“I saw the event in the morning. I’m glad I didn’t go. I’m worried after seeing what happened there…is that what Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru thought of modern India?…We are bringing the country backward? This event was only for limited people?” Rajya Sabha member Pawar said.
Pawar’s daughter and NCP Baramati MLA Supriya Sule said the function is incomplete with opposition parties. “Opening a new Parliament building without opposition makes it an incomplete event. It means there is no democracy in the country,” Sule said.
NCP national spokesman Clyde Crasto said: “We are a democracy, not a monarchy. The people of the country must hand over power… It is sad to see that our president, the constitutional head of our country, he is not inaugurating the new Parliament building.”
