Four people were killed and two children, ages 2 and 13, were injured in a shooting Monday evening in Southwest Philadelphia, police said.
A suspect was arrested with an AR-style rifle, a handgun, a bulletproof vest, several magazines of ammunition in his vest and a scanner after the shooting that spread across several blocks in or around the Kingsessing neighborhood, said Philadelphia Police Commissioner Danielle M. Outlaw. .
A second person, who may have grabbed someone’s gun and returned fire, was also in custody, Outlaw said.
Three of the four dead were between the ages of 20 and 59, police said. The quarterback’s age was not immediately available. Outlaw described the condition of the injured children as stable.
Investigators do not immediately know what led to the shooting, police said. About 50 spent helmets litter the filming scenes, Outlaw said.
Earlier, police said eight people had been injured.
At least 339 mass shootings have occurred in the United States so far this year, according to the Archive of armed violence. The archive, like CNN, defines a mass shooting as one in which four or more people are shot, not including the shooter.
