At least three people, including two children, were killed in a Russian missile attack in Kiev early today, authorities said.
“Remnants of enemy rockets fell on the Desnyan district polyclinic. The windows of the high-rise building were also broken,” Kyiv Mayor Vitaliy Klitschko said.
Another 14 were injured, of which nine people required hospital treatment. Emergency crews have extinguished fires caused by falling debris at the strike sites.
Officials said Kiev’s air defenses had intercepted all incoming projectiles in the overnight attack and that the deaths and injuries were caused by falling debris.
It comes after Russia’s defense ministry said its forces had destroyed what it described as Ukraine’s “last warship” two days ago in the port of Odesa in a missile attack.
Oleh Chalyk, a spokesman for the Ukrainian navy, said it would not respond to any such claims made by Russia. The Ukrainian navy will not disclose any information about losses during the war, he added.

Russian bombing in Kiev kills three
Russian forces began June with a new aerial bombardment of Kiev on Thursday, killing at least three people and wounding others, officials said.
After 17 reported attacks in the Ukrainian capital in May, mostly by drones, Russian forces attacked the capital in the early hours of the morning, damaging apartment buildings and a medical clinic. Two of the dead were children, according to municipal authorities.
The number of injured fluctuated according to preliminary reports, but the casualties were still the heaviest from an attack last month.
After a woman died watching an airstrike from her balcony earlier this week, Kiev authorities urged residents to stay in shelters or other safe places.
Ukraine’s air defenses have become increasingly effective at intercepting Russian drones and missiles, but in some cases the resulting debris causes fires and injuries to buildings and the ground.
Preliminary indications were that Kiev’s air defenses intercepted all incoming weapons early Thursday, and that the latest deaths and injuries were caused by falling debris.
On Wednesday, Russian forces carried out three airstrikes in the southern Kherson region, along with missile and heavy artillery strikes in other parts of the region.

Putin’s war hits home as Moscow faces a full-scale drone strike
The Kremlin has hit out at Kiev after Moscow was the target of a large-scale drone attack for the first time since its invasion of Ukraine began.
The incident exposes how far Russian President Vladimir Putin’s decision to invade Ukraine 15 months ago has hit home. Residents of some of the capital’s most exclusive neighborhoods woke up to the sound of explosions as Moscow and its outskirts were hit by drones, which may have numbered as many as 30.
The Russian president appeared on state television to denounce the attack, accusing Kiev of trying to “intimidate Russia, Russian citizens” and claiming the attacks targeted “residential buildings.” Putin also admitted that while Moscow’s air defense had “functioned satisfactorily”, it was “clear that our task is to plug the gaps” in the system.

Governor of Belgorod says eight injured by Ukrainian shelling
Eight people were injured in overnight shelling that continued into the morning in the Russian city of Shebekino that damaged several buildings, the governor of the local Belgorod region said on Thursday.
In a video posted on Telegram, Governor Vyacheslav Gladkov said: “In the Shebekino district, there is ongoing shelling by the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Eight people have been injured. There are no deaths.”
He said local authorities would evacuate civilians as soon as the shelling ended.
“Of course, the lives of civilians, of the population, are threatened. Mainly in Shebekino and the surrounding villages,” he added.
The Belgorod region, which borders Ukraine’s Kharkiv region, has come under repeated attacks from Kyiv’s territory in recent months. In May, Ukrainian forces briefly seized some border settlements before retreating back across the border.

Russian missiles kill two children in Kiev
At least three people, including two children, were killed in a Russian missile attack in Kiev early today, authorities said.
The Russian missile hit the Desnyanskyi region on the eastern outskirts of the capital, as well as the Dniprovkskyi district closer to the center, Kiev’s military administration said.
Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko said the missile hit a medical clinic and of the total of 14 wounded, nine people required hospital treatment. Emergency crews had put out fires caused by falling debris near the strike sites.

Authorities say 27,000 Ukrainian civilians are being held on Russian soil
Ukraine has claimed that 27,000 Ukrainian civilians are being held on Russian soil.
Dmytro Lubinets, Ukraine’s commissioner for human rights, said: “According to our data, more than 27,000 civilian hostages are being held by the Russian Federation.
“That’s a large number of our citizens who are actually being held by the Russians.”
When asked at a press conference if there is any news about UNIAN news agency reporter Dmytro Khilyuk, who was captured by the Russians, it was revealed that there has been no progress.
The ombudsman said: “Unfortunately, he has not yet returned to Ukraine.
“I will not say that we will return it in the near future. I am used to saying real things.”
