(CNN) – A Connecticut bakery suffered some property damage after an unexpected bear guest made a surprise visit.

Taste by Spellbound, an Avon bakery, caught up with the furry guest on May 24. according to a Facebook post.

The bread oven explained this a staff member was placing items in the store’s loading garage when he saw a bear in the garage.

“He ran into the kitchen as fast as he could and closed the door leading into the cargo area and held it tight,” the bakery wrote. “Then the bear moved one of our coolers in front of the door.”

One staff member called 911 while another got into his car and honked until the bear drove off.

Police responded and the bakery’s owner has been working with the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection, according to the Facebook post.

The bear destroyed about 60 cupcakes and a “lot of coconut cake,” the post said.

The bakery too has posted a video showing the bear wandering into the garage and emerging with what appears to be a cardboard box full of baked goods. The bear eats the candy before the car arrives, causing the bear to retreat to nearby dumpsters.

“No bear will be harmed,” the bakery added in the post.

“They’re more afraid of us than they are of us,” they wrote “At this point we’ve all had a good laugh and think bears are cute.”

Connecticut is home to between 1,000 and 1,200 black bears, according to the state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection. The report says human-bear interactions have increased as the bear population has also recovered.

The department encourages residents to manage their food, trash and “other attractants” to keep bears away and to stay away from bears they encounter.
