The Dairy Parade has been canceled due to poor air quality caused by massive wildfires in northern Canada. X101’s John Eves spoke with City of Cortland Mayor Scott Steve about the decision to cancel tonight’s parade.

“Of course, we’re concerned about little kids and everybody going around town and going to the parade, so we decided to cancel it. We’re hoping to reschedule it.” Steve told X101.

At the moment there is no word on a possible rescheduling date for the Dairy Parade, as it will have to be planned with the organizations participating in the fair to see if a new date is possible.

The Cortland County Dairy Parade is tonight, June 6, starting at 6:30 in the city of Cortland, rain or shine. This year’s parade will follow the same route as last year due to ongoing construction on Cortland’s main street. The parade will start on Main Street near Maple Ave and continue down North Main to Homer Ave to the County Fairgrounds. This year, after the parade in the Fair Grounds, there will be the presentation of the parade prizes, the celebration of the dairy ambassador and the food and delicacies.

More information can be found on the Cortland County Dairy Promotions Facebook page. X101 CEO John Eves will also be a judge at this year’s parade.
