THE talk ONE DAY BEFORE NATIONAL GUN VIOLENCE AWARENESS MONTH STARTED, THE ATTORNEY GENERAL VISITED MCKEES PORT HIGH SCHOOL, HE HAD THIS DISCUSSION WITH THE STUDENTS AND SOME SAY THEY HAVE HAPPENED A LOT. BUT WE SHOOT FROM DECEMBER TO MARCH. YOU KNOW WHAT YOU WANT TO GET BACK TO? AND IT’S DIFFERENT PEOPLE, EVEN PEOPLE WHO WERE CLOSE TO US, LIKE DOM CORCORAN, HIS WAS IN MARCH, YOU KNOW WHAT HE WANTS TO GO BACK TO? AND THE POLICE OFFICER, YOU KNOW, IT WAS VERY SAD AND AS HE HAD A LOT TO OFFER US. JOCELYN FULMORE WAS ONE OF THE STUDENTS INVOLVED IN THE ROUNDTABLE WITH ATTORNEY GENERAL MICHELLE HENRY, even though it was closed to the media so kids could talk freely about gun violence and mental health. HENRY said these upcoming visits are needed NOW MORE THAN EVER. WE WANTED TO START IT BY COMING TO MCKEESPORT HIGH SCHOOL TO HEAR DIRECTLY FROM THESE STUDENTS ABOUT WAYS WE CAN HELP THEM, AND I HEARD THEM FIRST-HAND. THE MCKEESPORT SCHOOL DISTRICT HAS SEVERAL RESOURCES AVAILABLE FOR STUDENTS ALREADY PARTNERED WITH THE OFFICE OF THE ATTORNEY GENERAL SO THE PROGRAM IS SURE TO TELL WHEN STUDENTS HAVE MENTAL HEALTH ISSUES, IT CAN BE CONFUSING. THEY CAN SUBMIT ANONYMOUS TIPS ABOUT PEOPLE WHO MAY BE A THREAT TO THEMSELVES OR OTHERS. LISTEN TO DIFFERENT LEVELS OF WHAT IS GOING ON WITH THE STUDENTS. SOME OF THE THINGS YOU SENSE IS THAT THEY ARE AFRAID, THEY ARE NERVOUS, THEY ARE REALLY AFFECTED BY WHAT IS HAPPENING IN THE COMMUNITY. TODAY’S DISCUSSION, THE FIRST OF MANY IN THE STATE. UPON COMPLETION, WE WANT TO ENABLE A REPORT WITH RECOMMENDATION OPTIONS ON HOW WE CAN SUPPORT THE STUDENTS AND HOW WE CAN MAKE THEM BETTER ABLE TO RESPOND TO VIOLENCE IN THEIR COMMUNITIES. IT WAS VERY GOOD THAT SOMEONE AS IMPORTANT AS SHE COULD LISTEN TO US, SAYS HENRY. SO FAR THEY HAVE RECEIVED approx. 120,000 TIPS THROUGH THE SAFE TO SAVE PROGRAM. First responders were called to a shooting in Zelienople, Butler County, Saturday afternoon. Beaver County dispatch confirmed a shooting in the 400 block of Klein Road around 3 p.m. Police and EMS remain on scene as of 3:30 p.m., the county 911. helicopters had been called for hospital transport. These helicopters have since been cancelled. The office confirmed that there had been injuries, but did not indicate the number of victims or the extent of their injuries.
