Florida Highway Patrol troopers responded to a crash that occurred today at Ocoee Apopka Road and Demastus Lane in Ocoee.
Two pedestrians were injured and taken to Orlando Regional Medical Center.
After the collision, the driver and passenger of the hit vehicle fled the scene on foot and were taken into custody by an Orange County Sheriff’s Office deputy.
FHP proceeded with the hit-and-run investigation and arrested Eugenio Cuevas, 24, of Apopka, who was booked into the Orange County Jail for failure to stop or remain in an accident involving serious injury ( crime – hit and run) and operate. a motor vehicle with a suspended license. Cuevas was also cited for failure to maintain a single lane. This accident remains under investigation.
Leaving the scene of an accident that results in property damage, injury or death is illegal. Make sure you and the passengers are OK. keep calm If possible, move to the side of the road. Remove the keys if you get out of the vehicle, get off the road and stay in a safe area. Check the others involved. Call 911 if someone could be injured or if a vehicle breaks down. If there are no injuries or significant property damage, collect information. Get other drivers’ name, driver’s license, insurance and tag information. Take photos of the vehicles and information if you can’t write it down, then submit a report online. Most importantly, always stay in the scene. Leaving the scene of an accident will only make things worse. Staying at the scene will not only save the driver significant legal penalties, it can save a life.
