The unrelenting heat will continue throughout the week.
More than 35 million Americans are on alert for dangerous heat that is scorching the Southeast and Southwest.
On Monday, the temperature will reach 109 degrees in Palm Springs, Calif.; 108 in Las Vegas; 110 in Phoenix; 105 in Tucson, Arizona; and 98 in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
The unrelenting heat will continue throughout the week. Temperatures could reach 115 degrees in Palm Springs and Phoenix on Friday.
This could be the worst heat wave ever for the Phoenix area. Phoenix has reached 110 degrees or higher for 10 days in a row and could match its record of 18 days in a row.
In the Southeast, heat is seeping into cities from Dallas to Houston through New Orleans and Miami.
The heat index, how the temperature feels with the humidity, is expected to climb above 100 degrees for much of this week in areas from Dallas to Miami.
