In this week’s edition of Spotlight Politics:

New efforts by Michael Madigan’s lawyers to suppress key evidence in his upcoming bribery trial: a move federal prosecutors say it is a “flimsy effort to create an air of impropriety where there is none.”

The nomination of a Chicago Public Schools teacher to represent much of the city’s Northwest Side in the state Senate sets up a fierce battle next spring as progressive political organizations and unions who helped elect Mayor Brandon Johnson is pushing to consolidate his electoral political power.

And the fallout from accusations of hazing and racism on the Northwestern University football team. Head football coach Pat Fitzgerald was fired as new details continue to emerge. Six teachers are asking the school to pause an $800 million upgrade.
