Sarah Sjostrom, one shy of Michael Phelps’ record, takes part in two events in the world of swimming

Sweden’s Sarah Sjostrom plans to run the 50m freestyle and 50m butterly and not the 100m freestyle and 100m fly at the swimming world championships starting next week.

Sjostrom’s management confirmed his race plan previously reported by Swedish media.

Sjostrom, 29, holds the world record in all four events, but has scaled back her racing schedule at major international meetings in recent years.

At last year’s worlds, she did not run the 100m fly for the first time since winning the first of her four world titles in the event in 2009 as a 15-year-old.

Also at last year’s worlds, Sjostrom won the 50m freestyle and 50m fly and took silver in the 100m freestyle to reach 19 career individual world medals, one short of Michael’s record Phelps.

Katie Ledecky is close behind with 16 individual medals. Ledecky is competing in three individual events at this year’s worlds.
