A crime wave sweeping through West Orange, New Jersey is leaving residents on edge. Burglars are apparently breaking into houses at night; they’re not looking for cash or valuables, they’re looking for keys to luxury cars parked in driveways. This problem is not only limited to West Orange. Police say there were six burglaries near Livingston last week alone.

Burglars are apparently breaking into homes at night – they’re not looking for cash or valuables, they’re looking for keys.

Joshua Davis, a resident, says his neighbor is one of a growing number of victims of these crimes.

“It looks like they went down to the basement and took the key ring,” Davis said.

Police say it keeps happening. They have already investigated at least eight robberies and similar thefts in recent months.

The suspect or suspects use garage door openers, find unlocked doors or windows, and in at least one case forced entry. Once inside the house, they look for keys or keys for expensive and high-end cars. they can drive there.

“It’s crazy. I don’t know, it seems surreal in a way. I’ve lived here my whole life and this stuff has never been a problem since I was a kid,” another resident told NBC 4 New. York. “Hearing it now, it kind of surprises me.”

Harold Ross lives in the community, says related crimes make him check his locks.

“I just heard about the key fob entry and car theft and I’m a little concerned,” Ross said. “I feel like it wasn’t taken very seriously when it first started and now that it’s starting to get a little out of hand, they’re starting to recognize it as a problem.”

This problem is not just limited to West Orange. Police say there were six burglaries near Livingston last week alone.
