Update: Charter Court orders Pita to cease parliamentary duties with immediate effect

Breaking news 2

The Constitutional Court has today (Wednesday) unanimously agreed to take into consideration the iTV shareholding case of the leader of the Move Forward party, Pita Limjaroenrat, and, by a majority decision, has ordered him to stop exercising his functions as deputy immediately.

Pita remains in the Parliament room because the Court’s order did not affect his candidacy for the presidency.

Serial petitioner Ruangkrai Leekitwattana filed a petition for the Charter Court to rule on Pita’s parliamentary status, accusing him of owning 42,000 shares in iTV, a media company, when he registered his election candidacy , which is a violation of the charter.

The Constitutional Court has ruled that the accusation is well-founded, adding that Pita has the right to reject the accusation within 15 days.

On the request to order Pita to stop performing his parliamentary duties, the Constitutional Court ruled 7-2 to order him to stop doing so immediately.
