Request for free sanitary napkins for girls of class 6-12 to be heard by SC

The Supreme Court is scheduled to hear a petition on Monday seeking directions to states and the Center to provide free sanitary pads to girls in class 6-12 and ensure a separate female toilet in all government-aided and residential schools, PTI reported.

Social worker Jaya Thakur’s plea is scheduled to be heard by a bench of Chief Justice DY Chandrachud and Justices JB Pardiwala and Manoj Misra. The apex court had earlier asked the Center to prepare a standard operating procedure and a national model to be adopted by all states and Union territories to manage menstrual hygiene of school-going girls.

On April 10, the top court said the issue was of immense importance and the Center should collaborate with all stakeholders for the implementation of a uniform national policy on menstrual hygiene management in schools, including government and aided schools.
