DORCHESTER, Mass. — Two local Norfolk and Hadley women have each claimed a $1 million prize won in Wednesday’s Powerball drawing, state lottery officials said Monday.
Winners claimed their prizes Friday at Massachusetts State Lottery headquarters in Dorchester.
Jan Busby of Norfolk said her winning numbers included family members’ birthdays. He told lottery officials that he only plays a few times a year, but this time he was playing because the jackpot was so high. He bought his ticket at Shaw’s Supermarket, 255 East Central St. in Franklin.
Rae Ann Wentworth-Cadieux of Hadley said she chose the numbers 7 and 11 for the name of the convenience store chain and used race car numbers for the rest of her winning numbers (10, 13 and 24). He told lottery officials he plans to use his winnings to buy a summer home. His winning ticket was purchased at Pride Station & Store, 445 Russell St. in Hadley.
A third $1 million prize won in Massachusetts in this drawing was sold at Global Montello/Gulf, 821 Main St. in Waltham.
Each of the three merchants who sold these winning tickets will receive a $10,000 bonus.
