WASHINGTON, July 24, 2023 /PRNewswire/ — The Terrorism Research Project has confirmed that the George Washington University (GW) has ended its relationship with the Middle East Studies Association.
In an email to IPT Senior Fellow AJ Caschetta, GW acknowledged this from December 31, 2023the embattled and once-respected academic organization needs a new home.
MESA moved its headquarters from the University of Arizona at GW’s Institute for Middle Eastern Studies (IMES) in 2019 amid great fanfare. The tone of his confirmation that the two had broken up was very different.
GW is just the latest university to cut ties with MESA, which critics say transformed from an academic organization to a political advocacy group in March 2022 when he announced that he was joining the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) movement with an “academic boycott of Israeli institutions for their complicity in of Israel violations of human rights and international law by providing direct assistance to military and intelligence establishments.”
