Oklahoma City police said two Oklahoma County officers were shot on the city’s southwest side.

The shooting happened at a residence near Southwest 78th Street and South Pennsylvania Avenue.

Deputies were taken to OU Health in Oklahoma City. One of the two deputies has died.

The fallen deputy has been identified as Sergeant Bobby Swartz.

The second deputy who was shot is still being treated at the hospital.

Authorities said several officers were serving an eviction notice at the residence before the shooting.

Police’s search for the alleged suspect continued with a brief chase through the city’s southeast side.

The alleged suspect was driving a pickup truck with a boat attached.

The suspect abandoned his vehicle and was apprehended by authorities near Tinker Air Force Base.

Earlier Monday, Tinker Air Force Base asked people to avoid the base’s front gate on South Air Depot Boulevard because of Monday’s suspected pursuit.

The base said its front gate is now open to traffic.

The eastbound lanes of I-40 have reopened at this time.

Gov. Kevin Stitt spoke out about the deputy’s fatal shooting, describing Monday as a “heartbreaking day.”
