UPDATE: 17-year-old girl dead in mass shooting in Chico

UPDATE: Saturday, May 6, 09:36:

A 17-year-old girl has been killed in a mass shooting at a house party in Chico early Saturday morning.

According to the Chico Police Department, the shooting incident began as an altercation at a house party at 12:27 a.m. Saturday in the 700 block of West 7th Street, Chico.

Upon arrival at the incident, CPD says a fight broke out when the unknown suspect was asked to leave the party, CPD received reports of shots fired and arrived on scene. Two victims were assaulted during the fight according to CPD, one was allegedly hit in the head with a firearm, and the other was allegedly hit in the head with a glass bottle. Both victims were taken to a local hospital and are in stable condition.

At 2:59 a.m., officers were dispatched to a party in the 1000 block of Columbus Avenue, where CPD says a firearm was brandished. Officers arrived and cleared the large party, where they discovered an individual matching the description of the suspect from the incident on West 7th Street. This individual was arrested by CPD for possession of a firearm and reckless discharge.

Shortly after, at 3:26 a.m., CPD says they were dispatched back to the 1000 block of Columbus Avenue, where they say multiple victims were struck by gunfire.

Officers at the scene confirmed that 6 people had been shot and one victim did not survive.

The CPD has not yet released the names of the victims, their ages and injuries are as follows:

17-year-old woman, dead. 21-year-old man, in stable condition in hospital, with non-fatal injuries. 20-year-old man, released from hospital with non-fatal injuries. 19-year-old man, admitted to a local hospital, in stable condition, with a non-life-threatening injury. 18-year-old man, admitted to a local hospital, in stable condition, with a non-life-threatening injury. 17-year-old woman, admitted to a local hospital, in stable condition, with a non-life-threatening injury.

This incident is still under investigation, CPD says they believe this is an isolated incident and there is no ongoing threat to the community.

The Chico Police Department (CPD) is investigating a mass shooting incident that occurred Saturday morning in the 1000 block of Columbus Ave.

CPD says “six victims were affected by the incident, and one victim died at the hospital.”

CPD has not yet released the names of the victims, they say the case is still under investigation.
