A plume of smoke covered the area around Amalie Arena Friday morning. The culprit: An old piece of equipment caught fire, according to the Tampa Bay Lightning.
Tampa Fire Rescue responded to a call for a small trash fire outside the arena, 401 Channelside Drive, at 9:24 a.m., according to Vivian McIlrath, agency spokeswoman.
A Tampa Bay Lighting spokesman said old equipment from the compound lot was being dismantled and a spark ignited the fire.
The fire was out within a minute, McIlrath said. There were no reported injuries.
“The first engine got to the scene, put out the fire, called everybody off,” McIlrath said. “It didn’t affect regular business.”
Although the fire was small, it caused a large cloud of smoke over the coastal area.
Fire is seen in the arena behind Amalie Arena on Friday in Tampa.
