Fairfield Twp. find a partner or a team of thieves who have seen too many heist movies.

Police investigators say thieves broke into a jewelry store on Hamilton-Middletown Road by cutting through the roof and then stole about $500,000 in jewelry and cash.

“It definitely took some time,” said Fairfield Twp. the police sergeant. Brandon McCroskey. “They had to have equipment (saws etc) to cut a hole through the roof and they fell through the roof into one of the rooms and then stole a large amount of goods and money.”

Sometime Thursday night, a team of at least two, maybe more, burglars broke into Unique Jewelers and Fashion, 4105 Hamilton-Middletown Road in Green Crest Plaza, and were not detected by the alarm system. The owner learned of the theft when the store opened Thursday morning.

“We know for a fact that they discovered (the store) before they did,” McCroskey said. “It was definitely carefully planned.”

McCroskey said investigators are working with other law enforcement agencies because they “suspect he is linked to others in the area,” adding that the modus operandi appears “appropriate” to what happened at Unique Jewelery and Fashion.

“We’re working with other agencies on information and viable leads, and looking at a number of different things and getting search warrants,” he said. “We are in the middle of the investigation.”

There are other businesses in Green Crest Plaza, but while some were damaged, none were robbed, McCroskey said.
