● Today marks the 105th anniversary of the Armed Forces of Azerbaijan. Azerbaijan will also celebrate Eid-al-Adha on the 26th and 27th; therefore, the country is on holiday until the end of the week. The next working day is July 3.
● The court has increased to 32 days the prison sentence of the activist Giyas Ibragimov, who went on a “dry” hunger strike and refused both food and water. He is accused of “disseminating prohibited information on the Internet.” Giyas Ibragimov, in his latest post on Facebook, swore when speaking about the Azerbaijani authorities and called for justice for the residents of the village of Soyudlu in the Gedabey region. ● Azerbaijan temporarily opened the Lachin road crossing for humanitarian purposes. This was announced by the country’s presidential assistant, Hikmet Hajiyev.
● Another round of peace talks between the foreign ministers of Azerbaijan and Armenia begins in Washington today.
● A statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan said that: “[Armenia’s] rejection of Azerbaijan’s offers to help residents [the unrecognised territory of Nagorno-Karabakh] by those who call themselves their representatives shows that the Armenian side is exploiting this issue for their own benefit.”
● Azerbaijani citizen Farid Safarli, detained in Iran on espionage charges, spoke to his relatives by phone. He said he had been tried three times and would be sentenced shortly. “However, neither the trial nor the investigation revealed any facts related to his espionage,” according to Dilyara Askerova, Safarli’s mother.
● Another 15 families, 53 IDPs who fled their homes during the first Karabakh war, have returned to the city of Lachin.
● In 2022, 528 men and 274 women over the age of 60 divorced, according to official statistics.
