BOSTON — A luxury cruise line from Boston Vantage Deluxe World Travel declares bankruptcy and sells his operation, amid ongoing investigations, lawsuits and hundreds of consumer complaints.

The company announced Thursday that it filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in the United States Bankruptcy Court for the District of Massachusetts and agreed to be acquired by United Travel Pte. Ltd., a subsidiary of Nordic Hamburg and Heritage Expeditions.

“Vantage has asked the court for customary relief to preserve the status quo pending the completion of the sale. Vantage has requested approval to complete the sale expeditiously, subject to the highest and best offers possible file through the court-supervised sale process,” the company wrote in a statement.

Just in the past few weeks, Vantage laid off all of its employees in a company-wide phone call on June 20.

The company Canal St. It has been under fire for months after hundreds of consumers complained about a lack of refunds for canceled or postponed trips. Earlier this month, the company quietly told its employees that all travel through Aug. 28 was being postponed, according to an internal memo obtained by Rescue to the consumer.

The Massachusetts Attorney General’s Office has received 818 consumer complaints about Vantage since Jan. 1, 2020, including 181 complaints filed in 2023, an AG spokesman said.

Most of the consumer complaints against Vantage come from outside Massachusetts, but the AG’s office said roughly 75 of the complaints come from Bay State residents.

AG’s Consumer Advocacy and Response Division said it had recovered more than $1.2 million for Vantage customers.

The Pennsylvania Attorney General’s Office filed suit against Vantage Earlier this month, he accused the company of “deceptive and unfair business practices” and taking advantage of older residents “to continue to hold their refunds hostage.”
